It has been a hectic 2013 for Yuli and her academy. She also coached the 2013 Under 17s WA State team. The state team came in 4th place in the June Bevan Competition. That is the biggest competition in the Australian scene as it includes teams from New Zealand and Caledonia.
Out of a total of 16 teams, WA came in 4th which was not bad. Tyzton and Phing Teo were ranked.
The 2013 Under 17s team comprising of Silvi Botha, Phing Teo, Alex Phan, Julia Nicols and Serena for the girls. Tyzton Tan, Amos Yu, Edward Fan, Kai Tjie Teoh and Titus Tan for the boys. Kay Terry MBE was the manager and Yulin was the coach. Annie Sim umpired.
Well this year, Yuli is again coaching the 2014 WA State team. They will be competing in New Zealand in April.
New Zealand has always had 2-4 teams in the competition. They have dominated in the June Bevan competition for many years.
Are we going to be able to beat them in their home ground.
It is up to the players and their dedicated coach Yuli.
This year the team started with 5 boys and 4 girls after the trials.
Yuli had to pray for a 5th girl so that the team will be stronger. Her prayers were answered when Bella Liu migrated to Perth from GuangXi, China in Nov 2013.
Yuli had to work hard to persuade the Badminton Association of WA to allow Bella into the team.
We were lucky that Bella managed to secure a sponsorship from James Chong Lawyers through the generous support of Denning Chong.
His business details are www.jameschonglawyers.com.au
Denning has been a great supporter of the state teams.
