Who runs the academy?

Zheng Yuli (Chinese: 郑昱鲤) is a retired female badminton player from China.

Career

She earned a bronze medal as a semifinalist at both the 1985 IBF World Championships and 1987 IBF World Championships in women's singles, dropping three set matches in each case to her compatriots Han Aiping and Li Lingwei respectively.

She won the women's singles at the Japan Open in 1984 and at the Denmark Open in 1984 and 1986. Zheng played on Uber Cup (women's international) championship teams for China in 1986 and 1988.

Yuli now lives in Perth with her 2 daughters.

The academy was started in 2009.

The academy caters for children interested in playing badminton as a hobby and sport.

The academy also supports the Western Australia State Badminton teams.

YuLi coached the 2012, 2013 , 2014 and 2016 Under 17s WA badminton State team. The 2014 team won a historical bronze medal. The 2016 state team did even better and won a silver while one of her students won the triple crown. The An Yu 2014 competition results

Dear readers

It was a long day yesterday for Yu Li. She had over 50 players ranging in age from 8 to 15 taking part in her annual event.

She was able to organise the competition with the help of many of the parents. Annie and Irene manned the desk and made sure everything ran smoothly.

Special mention needs to go to Martin and his missus. They have been helping Yuli every year since the competition started.

Many of the parents and the other state team players helped with umpiring and making sure all the kids stayed in focus.

The joy in the faces of the kids made it all worthwhile. I must say there were some tears too when some of the players lost their games.

A new development which I thought was good was the pairing of many of her state team players with some junior players in doubles games. This gave the junior players a great experience, playing at a higher level.

It is no surprise that most of the WA State team players train with Yuli.

The sponsors for the competition included Psalm Real Estate,  D and Y Flexible Duct and of course Tan and Tan Lawyers.

The eventual winners were :

Singles Group C:

Nithesda was 3rd, Theodore 2nd and Damian 1st.

Singles Group B: Alicia was 3rd, Timothy 2nd and Ryan 1st.

Singles group A: Milan was 3rd, Sun Yee 2nd and Jason 1st.

Doubles Group C: Cindy and Joanne in 2nd place with Damien and Matthew winning the gold. I thought the girls should have been given a handicap to make the game more exciting.

Doubles group B: Janice and Jasmine were 2nd with Ryan and Jackie in 1st place.

Doubles group A had Jason and Milain in 2nd place while Tyzton and Benjamin got first place.

Certificates of achievements went to Zhen Dian Eing, Bernice Teoh and Janice Tan.

Certificates of excellence went to Joanne Zheng, Rupert Kang, Bella Liu, Jason Lee and Sunyee Zheng.

This has been another great competition and it shows her eger Yuli's students are to improve and how much her students love her academy.

Till next year, keep training everyone.
